Avoid Loading Items Onto The Wrong Vehicle
Loading an item onto the wrong vehicle is an easy way to miss
a delivery promise and incur additional cost. To help prevent this from
happening, DeliveryPoD allows you to set up "Route Restrictions".
There are 2 types of Route Restrictions:
- Depot / Hub
Here you enter the name of a regional depot and enter the postcodes that the
depot looks after. For example the "Bournemouth Depot" looks after all UK
Postcodes beginning with BH (Bournemouth) and SO (Southampton). You can go
right the way down to a full postcode e.g. BH21 1TY
When designing the delivery stages you wish to track, you can allocate a
Depot Route Restriction to a delivery stage (e.g. "Load Lorry Going to
Depot"). When a user selects this stage, they are asked to select which
depot the vehicle is going to. After doing this they scan each package onto
the vehicle, the mobile computer compares the packages postcode with the
postcodes allocated to the selected depot. If the package should go to the
depot "Load" screen is shown, otherwise a "Don't Load" screen is shown and
the mobile computer locks until they acknowledge the warning.
- Delivery Route
The Delivery Route is similar in concept to a Depot / Hub, but it is
generally used for loading vehicles for the final stage of Delivery. For
example you may create a route called "South Central Delivery Route" which
looks after deliveries to all postcodes starting with BS, SH, RG, and BH.
When loading the vehicle, the mobile computer compares the packages postcode
with the postcodes allocated to the selected Delivery Route.
You can have as many Depots, Hubs and Delivery Routes as you
wish.

The above sequence shows a delivery stage (Send to Regional
Depot) that uses a Depot / Hub restriction. After selecting the stage from the
menu the user is asked which Depot / Hub the vehicle is going to. In this case
they selects Bournemouth. The mobile computer now allows the user to scan items
onto the vehicle - if the package should go to that depot they a green "Load"
screen flashes up on the display for a half a second, if it should not go to the
depot a red "Don't Load" screen shows - which locks the mobile computer until
they acknowledge the warning (so they don't carry on scanning without noticing).
